HERE IS THE LATEST NEWS!

Mrs. Kennett will be back tomorrow!  She is so grateful for your prayers and support during her recuperation.  We’ll be glad to see her smiling face again!

Our Home and School Association offers a big Thank You to all who purchased car raffle tickets.  They earned approximately $500 to use for school needs!!

Thank you to all our parents and alumni who returned our recent survey.  I was thrilled with the excellent response.  A quick estimate, as we begin the work of counting and collating, is that we have about 90% return rate.  That is tremendous!  Thanks so much.  The surveys will be used in various ways, including making goals for next year.

Good news!

Our IHM Congregation is sending Sister Regina Anthony to assist me in my work as principal.  Sister comes to us with great joy and enthusiasm.  Sister has worked as support staff for the past fourteen years in the Registrar’s Office at Immaculata University.  Prior to that Sister Regina was a principal and Superintendent for over twenty years.  We are preparing an office for Sister Regina in Kelly Hall.  Sister will arrive at St. Agnes in August although she will stop in for a visit someday soon!

May News

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Dear Parents,

During the month of May the Church honors, Mary, the Mother of God and our Mother.  We are fortunate to have Mary as our model and our Mother.  Every one of us can relate to Mary in some way or another during our lifetime.  Mary was a loving daughter to Anna and Joachim; a scared young girl, a faithful spouse to Joseph, a sorrowful Mother as her Son was mocked, scorned, and put to death, a grieving widow.  Her message is always consistent – love my Son and be faithful.  Let us take her message to heart and look to her for inspiration and courage.  Teach your children to know Mary as their Blessed Mother.  Honor her in your home with a statue or picture, and prayer.  During this month of May, say the Rosary, or even a decade a day, together as a family.  The family that prays together stays together.  “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

News to Note:

  • SCRIP – as you look ahead this Spring, please remember that SCRIP has in stock gift cards for Rita’s Water Ice, ITunes, Wawa, and Wawa Shorties.  You can order these any time.  Remember the SCRIP program as you purchase gifts for graduations, Mothers Day and Fathers Day.
  • Dental exams are required by the PA Health Code for students in kindergarten, 3rd and 7th grades. It is the responsibility of the parent to return the dental report form before May 1st. Please contact the nurses’ office if you have questions.”
  • The Round Table Discussion from this morning was a lively chat.  Along with Mrs. Hawkes and Sister Joan, Home and School President Laurie Parker, there were three parents.  Two parents attended the evening session.  Some of the highlights of the discussion were:
    • Recommendation that students who participated in advanced levels of the science or history fair share their knowledge with the sixth grade students.  This could be done informally.
    • Recommendation to include public speaking opportunities for students in all grades as this is such an important skill.
    • Encourage Prayer Partner activities more regularly.  Students of all ages enjoy joining Prayer Partners for different activities.
    • Continue to recognize the diverse learning styles of students.  Make expectations clear and consistent.
    • Comment on the lack of ease of the school calendar as it is published on the school website.
    • Comment on the fact that if every family used the SCRIP program, we could probably do away with other fundraising needs.
    • Homework issues were discussed – How much is too much?  The philosophy behind homework?

The two round table discussions yesterday were the last ones scheduled for this year.  Next year we would like to provide the same format with a twist.  We will publish a list of suggested topics and have someone present information for 10 – 15 minutes.  Then we will allow time for discussion of the topic and open the table as usual.  Hopefully this will be an improvement as we continue to strive to provide you with opportunities for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

Dear Parents,

Happy Easter!  May you and your family enjoy the many blessings of this Easter season!  The liturgies at St. Agnes Parish were quite beautiful, prayerful, and holy.  We are fortunate that our priests, deacons, and seminarians devote so much attention to the details of the liturgy.  Like Christmas, Easter is a season and extends for the next forty days.  Our joy can be based on our faith.
