Summer Reading                  First Grade                                   Mrs. Richmond, Sister James

Dear Parents,

The two required books for your child entering first grade are listed below.  Please read the stories and complete the corresponding activities.  Please send them in with your child during the first week of school.

We hope that you all enjoy the summer reading and look forward to seeing you all in the Fall!

Book 1: Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes

Activity 1: On a piece of long construction paper create your first name out of items that represent yourself.  ( Ex.  If you like soccer you may make the first letter of your name out of soccer ball stickers or if pasta is your favorite food one of your letters may be made out of pasta noodles)  Please don’t use anything that is too heavy as we are going to hang them up.  BE CREATIVE!!!!!!

Book 2: What Do You Do with a Tail Like This? By Steve Jenkins and Robin Page

Activity 2: Chose one of the following (ears, eyes, nose, feet) and draw a picture of yourself creatively on paper. An example is below.

Please return your assignment the first week of school in September.
